In this Bankruptcy Practice Assistant role, you will provide administrative support for assigned attorneys in the bankruptcy and restructuring practice group. Duties include creating and editing documents, filing and serving pleadings and other documents, interacting with court staff, clients, and others, completing client/matter intake forms, finalizing bills, submitting expenses, entering time, answering incoming calls, coordinating meetings, managing attorney’s contacts, and maintaining calendars.

To give you an idea of how this Bankruptcy Practice Assistant position would look and feel, here are some areas you can expect to work in:

  • Create and edit complex documents from multiple sources, including correspondence, memos, spreadsheets, and presentations
  • Proofread and redline work for spelling, grammar, and layout, making appropriate changes
  • Assist with the preparation of documents needed in connection with bankruptcy-related cases. Assist with preparing exhibit, hearing, and fee binders
  • Review bills for accuracy and prepare transmittal letters to clients
  • Manage incoming and outgoing electronic communications (including telephone, email, and fax), take accurate messages, route appropriately, and respond to all inquiries


The ideal candidate for this Bankruptcy Practice Assistant position will have a High School Diploma or GED and 5+ years of legal administrative assistant experience. You will also require:

  • Experience with document management, time and billing, client matter intake, and e-filing systems
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, and typing skills of 60+ wpm
  • Excellent communication, written and verbal skills, positive attitude, dependability, flexibility, good judgment, initiative, and professionalism
  • Excellent client service skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines, handle a high volume of work timely and accurately, and display excellent organizational skills
