Salary Range: $180K-$200K | Bonus Eligible
Schedule: Full-time | Monday-Friday

About the Opportunity

A top Boston law firm is hiring an IT Director to lead and modernize its technology function. This is a hands-on, strategic leadership position ideal for a technology professional who thrives at the intersection of IT strategy, cybersecurity, cloud transformation, and user experience.

With several high-impact initiatives underway, including a cloud migration, intranet build, and evaluation of AI-enabled legal technologies, this role offers a seat at the table and the autonomy to shape the future of IT across the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of progressive IT experience, including hands-on systems and network administration
  • Experience in a law firm or professional services environment 
  • Proven success managing IT budgets, vendors, and enterprise technology projects
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft 365, networking, virtualization, cybersecurity, and disaster recovery
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled productivity tools and emerging legal technology trends
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into clear, business-focused recommendations
  • Comfortable balancing strategic leadership with day-to-day technical execution

Essential Functions

Technology Strategy & Governance

  • Develop and execute a multi-year IT roadmap aligned with business objectives
  • Lead IT budgeting, forecasting, vendor selection, and contract negotiations
  • Establish and enforce cybersecurity policies, data governance, and business continuity plans
  • Guide the responsible adoption of AI-enhanced tools within legal and productivity platforms
  • Partner with executive leadership to deliver technology insights, risk assessments, and recommendations
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support IT audits, investigations, and RFPs

Project & Vendor Management

  • Oversee IT project management, including cloud migrations, infrastructure upgrades, and security initiatives
  • Manage relationships with Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to ensure accountability, coverage, and performance
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget

IT Operations & Systems Administration

  • Provide hands-on leadership in network administration, systems troubleshooting, virtualization, and security systems
  • Participate in help desk support as part of a collaborative IT team
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for systems, workflows, and disaster recovery

User Enablement & Productivity

  • Support and optimize Microsoft 365, legal practice software, and AI-powered productivity tools
  • Drive technology training, workflow optimization, and adoption of best practices
  • Improve end-user experience for attorneys and business professionals

Team Leadership & Development

  • Coach and mentor three IT team members through clear roles, escalation paths, and growth plans
  • Foster a culture of service excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement
