About the Role:
The T-DH Food Pantry Assistant supports the efficient operations of a community-based food pantry network. This individual will work independently and collaboratively with the Food Pantry Coordinator to ensure a seamless food service experience for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.
This role includes inventory management, client support, community outreach, and assistance with food transport and logistics. It requires compassion, physical stamina, and a commitment to upholding high standards of health, safety, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee on-site and off-site food inventory, including ordering, donations, and transport preparation
- Transport food using a van or truck (non-CDL); comfortable driving on highways required
- Provide exceptional client service while respecting individual privacy and maintaining boundaries
- Collaborate with volunteers and staff across multiple pantry locations
- Ensure all food pantry operations comply with health and safety regulations
- Organize and restock shelves; check expiration dates and sort incoming donations
- Support data entry, including timely input of client registration and services
- Assist with volunteer coordination and provide backup coverage for the Food Pantry Coordinator
- Safely operate tools such as pallet jacks, forklifts, and loading lifts
- Attend internal and external meetings and training as needed
- Perform other related duties to support the organization’s mission and goals
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (HiSET accepted)
- Valid Massachusetts driver’s license; minimum 5 years of driving experience
- Experience operating a 26′ truck or similar vehicle (CDL not required)
- Ability to lift up to 65 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks
- ServSafe certification preferred (willing to train the right candidate)
- Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply
- Basic computer literacy (email, data entry); willingness to learn internal systems
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Availability for occasional weekend or evening shifts
