About the Opportunity
A family-owned engineering firm is seeking a highly organized, hands-on Financial Controller to own all accounting and finance operations. This is a sole contributor role with full autonomy and visibility, ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, small-company environment and enjoys building structure, improving processes, and serving as a trusted financial partner to leadership.
Deltek experience is required.
Key Qualifications & Skills
- 5+ years of accounting or finance experience, preferably in a small business or engineering environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Deltek software experience (required)
- Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail
- High level of technical proficiency and comfort working independently
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting systems
- Clear, professional communication skills with the ability to partner cross-functionally
Essential Functions
- Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, management reports, and forecasts
- Manage accounts receivable and invoicing
- Process bi-weekly payroll, including prevailing wage entries and payroll reporting
- Serve as primary liaison with external tax consultants; support tax preparation and compliance
- Manage and resolve IRS, MassTax, and DUA notices
- Identify and implement process improvements and cost-saving initiatives
- Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures
- Maintain an organized, auditable financial filing system (digital and/or physical)
- Ensure confidentiality of sensitive financial and employee information
- Support employee onboarding and offboarding related to payroll and time/expense systems
- Act as point of contact for 401(k) administrators
- Manage annual insurance renewals (Professional Liability, Workers’ Compensation, Health, Dental, Vision, Auto, etc.)
