About the Opportunity
A respected nonprofit leader in special education services, behavioral health, and child welfare is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join its Special Education Day School in Needham, MA. Serving students from diverse cultural and social backgrounds, this organization provides comprehensive therapeutic education programs supporting learners with social, emotional, behavioral, and learning disabilities.
The Special Education Teacher will lead a classroom of up to nine students with moderate special needs, delivering individualized academic and behavioral instruction aligned with the Massachusetts curriculum frameworks. Reporting to the School Principal, this role plays a critical part in advancing student achievement through Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), evidence-based interventions, and structured behavioral supports.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Massachusetts certification in Moderate Special Needs (K–8)
- Knowledge of special education law, IEP compliance, and trauma-informed practices preferred
- Strong classroom management and team leadership skills

Essential Functions
- Deliver high-quality special education instruction in a small classroom setting
- Develop and implement IEPs, quarterly reports, and measurable student goals
- Plan and execute standards-aligned lesson plans using multi-sensory instructional strategies
- Foster a safe, structured, and therapeutic learning environment
- Utilize Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, and behavioral support models
- Implement individualized treatment plans and support strategies
- Monitor student progress using formal and informal educational assessments
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including administrators, therapists, and families
- Lead classroom team meetings and supervise assistant teachers
- Maintain accurate behavioral documentation and compliance reporting
