Opportunity Overview
Our client is seeking a Senior Professional Development Manager to lead strategic attorney development, talent management, and leadership coaching initiatives within its nationally recognized law firm. This high-impact role will embed professional development strategy directly within the practice group, aligning career growth initiatives with business objectives and long-term talent strategy.
Reporting to senior leadership, this individual will serve as a trusted advisor and executive coach to attorneys at all levels, driving innovative and personalized career development programs, enhancing associate engagement, and strengthening the overall attorney lifecycle experience.
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Juris Doctor (JD) with transactional or deal experience preferred but not required
- 10+ years of experience in law firm professional development, legal talent management, or professional services leadership
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Experience with HRIS systems (UKG Ready or similar) preferred
- Familiarity with AI tools in professional services environments strongly preferred
- Demonstrated expertise in executive coaching, relationship building, and emotional intelligence
- Strong presence and credibility with partners and senior stakeholders
- Advanced strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to influence without authority and drive behavioral change
- Exceptional communication skills across varied audiences
- Organizational agility in fast-paced, high-performance environments
- Analytical mindset with commitment to continuous improvement
- High degree of professionalism, judgment, and discretion
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary professional development advisor for the Finance & Restructuring Department
- Design and execute customized attorney coaching and mentoring programs
- Partner with practice leadership to develop and implement practice-specific talent strategies
- Collaborate with Knowledge Management to ensure attorneys leverage AI tools in legal practice (e.g., Copilot and other emerging technologies)
- Support commercial skill-building initiatives for associates and principals
- Contribute to firmwide programs, including performance reviews, compensation processes, skills tracking, and training curriculum development
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal Recruiting, Human Resources, and leadership committees
- Monitor and apply trends in legal professional development, organizational design, and leadership effectiveness
- Maintain discretion with confidential attorney performance and compensation matters
