About the Opportunity

An international law firm is hiring a Business Development Manager in Boston, MA, New York, NY, or Washington, DC. This role partners directly with attorneys, practice leaders, and senior stakeholders in the firm’s Securities and Financial Services Department to identify growth opportunities, strengthen client relationships, and execute strategic business development initiatives

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 10+ years of experience in legal business development, professional services marketing, or business development
  • Experience supporting financial services, securities, investment management, regulated industries, or related legal practices preferred
  • Strong strategic planning, analytical, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with partners, attorneys, executives, and senior stakeholders
  • Ability to translate market intelligence, data, and client insights into actionable business development strategies
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced professional services environment
  • Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels

Key Job Functions

  • Serve as a trusted business development advisor to partners, practice leaders, and senior attorneys, developing and executing strategic business development plans
  • Support practice and partner-level business planning, including identifying growth priorities, target clients, market opportunities, and cross-selling strategies across practices and geographic markets
  • Lead pitches, proposals, and RFP responses, partnering with attorneys and subject-matter experts to develop compelling, client-focused materials
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of securities and financial services, including relevant clients, industries, market trends, and regulatory developments, to identify business development opportunities
  • Lead the planning and execution of client events, sponsorships, seminars, and business development programs
  • Partner with attorneys on key and priority client initiatives, including client plans, relationship mapping, and client-specific growth strategies
  • Manage legal directory submissions and industry award submissions for SFS practices as needed
  • Collaborate with attorneys and marketing communications professionals to identify and advance thought leadership opportunities, including articles, alerts, webinars, and speaking engagements
  • Support lateral partner integration by developing customized business development plans and facilitating internal relationships and collaboration
  • Assist with business development budget management, expense tracking, and reporting
  • Help supervise, mentor, and develop business development team members while contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team culture
  • Manage multiple priorities and projects while maintaining a high level of quality, accuracy, and responsiveness
  • Stay informed about financial services market trends, industry developments, and competitive intelligence to inform business development strategies
