Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent experience required; post-secondary coursework preferred
- 3+ years of experience as a Legal Assistant in a law firm environment
- Specific experience in Trusts & Estates law required
- Strong familiarity with estate planning and estate administration
- Experience with electronic court filing systems for probate filings
- Proficient in legal terminology, document management systems, and legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis)
- Ability to communicate effectively
- High attention to detail, organization, and time management
- Ability to manage confidential information with integrity
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- This role is based in a professional law office setting with occasional overtime as needed
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and manage complex case files for trusts and estates matters
- Ensure timely and accurate court filings and other legal documents
- Track critical deadlines and follow-up dates
- Act as a liaison between attorneys and clients with professionalism and empathy
- Coordinate and schedule client meetings
- Assist attorneys with meeting preparation and court appearances
- Manage calendars, schedule meetings, and arrange travel
- Collaborate with attorneys and the billing team to process monthly invoices
- Conduct conflict checks and open new matters
- Uphold client confidentiality and firm policies at all times
- Provide assistance with special legal projects as needed
- Stay current on laws and regulations affecting trusts and estates
