About the Role:
Our client, a highly successful and collaborative wealth management firm, is seeking a Trust Counsel to join its Fiduciary Services Group. This hybrid position offers a unique opportunity for an experienced legal professional to provide fiduciary counsel and client-focused trust administration services within a firm that prioritizes long-term growth, work-life balance, and cross-functional support.
The Trust Counsel will support trustees and high-net-worth clients across a range of complex trusts, estate plans, tax issues, and investment matters. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of estate and trust law, excellent client relationship skills, and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) and membership in the Massachusetts Bar Association required
- LL.M. in Taxation or Estate Planning is preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in trust administration, estate planning, or financial planning in a law firm, bank, or investment management environment
- Certified Trust and Fiduciary Advisor (CTFA) designation or commitment to obtain one
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience with fiduciary platforms (e.g., Sungard AddVantage, ProFx, Estate Planning Tools, Charitable Financial Planner)
- Strong judgment, maturity, and discretion in handling confidential client matters
- Detail-focused with consistent follow-through and organizational skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide fiduciary guidance and legal support to a portfolio of complex trusts and high-net-worth clients
- Research, interpret, and apply laws related to probate, retirement plans, fiduciary duties, estate planning, and taxation
- Draft and review trust instruments and related legal documentation
- Communicate with clients, tax professionals, attorneys, and advisors on estate planning strategies and fiduciary matters
- Manage the full life cycle of trust accounts: openings, distributions, terminations, death and gift tax processes
- Participate in fiduciary risk management meetings and provide leadership on risk mitigation strategies
- Lead or contribute to projects and initiatives driven by the Head of Fiduciary Services
- Support internal knowledge-sharing by mentoring team members and improving administrative workflows
- Represent fiduciary services in executive and trustee committee meetings as needed
- Maintain up-to-date records and ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures
- Leverage technology systems for client account management, reporting, and documentation
