About the Role
A respected banking and mortgage lending organization is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Loan Underwriter to support expansion in its Residential Lending Division. This part-time opportunity is ideal for an experienced professional who thrives in a collaborative, compliance-driven environment and values flexibility.
Key Qualifications
- 3+ years of Mortgage Banking underwriting experience
- Strong knowledge of mortgage underwriting policies and procedures
- Experience applying FNMA and FHLMC guidelines
- Ability to register as a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) under the S.A.F.E. Act
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple loan files simultaneously
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze residential mortgage loan files to ensure complete and accurate underwriting documentation
- Evaluate borrower financial statements, credit reports, income documentation, and property appraisals
- Interpret and apply FNMA (Fannie Mae) and FHLMC (Freddie Mac) underwriting guidelines
- Assess loan risk and make independent underwriting decisions within secondary market guidelines
- Recommend approval or denial of residential mortgage applications and real estate loan extensions
- Prepare commitment letters, adverse action notices, and maintain accurate pipeline reports
- Verify and maintain accurate HMDA reporting data
- Conduct pre- and post-funding loan file audits
- Serve as liaison with customers, brokers, correspondent lenders, investors, attorneys, and internal teams
- Assist with underwriting additional products, including Consumer Loans, HELOCs, and Small Business Loans
- Ensure full compliance with federal and state banking regulations, including the S.A.F.E. Act
